Business Partners UK
Business Partners work closely with line or business managers to develop Human Resource strategies and provide Human Resource deliverables that are supportive of the local business strategy. Business Partners are aligned directly to the businesses or functions and provide the HR resources, strategies and processes needed to ensure the success of these groups and employees. HR employees in these positions have the unique challenge of balancing employee needs and business needs. Often, they must work to find ways to solve sensitive issues to meet the needs and expectations of all stakeholders.
An HR Business Partner typically undertakes the following activities:
- Provides strategic HR counsel to key clients on organizational effectiveness and performance improvement
- Identifies and addresses HR needs and ensures that HR processes are implemented in the client's organization
- Serve as a focal point on organizationally sensitive issues, such as diversity or ethics
- Helps to identify human resource needs and jointly develop creative solutions to satisfy those needs
- Gathers client input and feedback in the development and implementation of corporate HR initiatives
- Identifies HR issues/concerns or trends in client departments and develops solutions to them in consultation with the HR management team
Building this capability does require the development of a full set of Business Partner Competencies. Also providing these services to the business is critical if an organisation is to develop a successful shared services model and for this they must rely on their business partners.
